Robin Mc Minnis and Helen Brooker of the Old Belmont School Preservation Trust have proposed the former school as a possible centre for an Ulster Scots facility and they think that this is where the Ulster-Scots (Ullans) Academy should be situated.Their Key points are:

• Old Belmont School is a prestigious Grade B 1 ‘listed’ structure with a strong cultural and social identity within east Belfast.

• The building is owned and managed by a registered charity (OBSPT) whose primary aim is the preservation of the building for the benefit of the local community.

• It is located convenient to the outer ring road system, on a main public transport and tourist bus route from the city centre.

• It is a politically neutral venue which the trustees are committed to safeguarding for the benefit of the whole community.

• High quality accommodation is available for rental and/or hire at economic and competitive rates which compare favourably with city centre offices.

• The accommodation has the added attraction of being flexible; catering is available and additional rooms can be hired for special events as may be required.

• Existing activities such as the C.S. Lewis exhibition and seasonal arts exhibitions potentially serve to complement any Ulster Scots facility within the building.• Dr. Ian Adamson, who is a noted Ulster Scots enthusiast, is a strong supporter of the trust and the building.

• Seven schools are located in the immediate vicinity.

Ed: There is currently a C.S. Lewis display in Belmont Tower, taken, I believe, from that once on display in Belfast Central Library. See thumbnail photo given. For others, see Belmont Primary School on Mister Keep Fit.
