RIR at Carrickfergus with Councillor Andrew Wilson

Tonight I attended, at the invitation of the Chairman and Trustees of The
Royal Irish Regiment Museum, the opening of an exhibition  Harp and Crown
A TRADITION OF IRISH SOLDIERING at the Exhibition Gallery, Carrickfergus
Museum & Civic Centre There I met Councillor Andrew Wilson,UUP, the nephew
of my Best Man and Colleague David Campbell, former Chief of Staff to David ,
now Lord, Trimble, who had been in my form at Bangor Grammar School.

David Campbell is a Trustee  of the Somme Association, along with Leslie Cree MLA,
a Conlig man  like myself, and a former Mayor of North Down on two occasions,
who also knew David Trimble at school.

Cllr Andrew Wilson was elected to the Knockagh Monument area

of Carrickfergus Borough in May 2011, and is one of 4 UUP representatives

on Council.  He is currently the youngest Councillor in the Borough and

also the youngest of 99 UUP representatives in Local Government

at the age of 23.

Andrew is currently Vice-Chairman of the Support Services committee

on Council (2011-12), and sits on numerous sub-committees

including Finance Monitoring and Sports / Leisure.  He has a keen interest

in European funding and sits on the Comet Interreg and GROW outside bodies.

Andrew is a serving Boys’ Brigade officer and has been a lifelong member

of Carrickfergus Methodist church. I think that Andrew will go far in Ulster politics.
